長野県小諸市にある「小諸城址懐古園」に行ってきました。しなの鉄道・東日本旅客鉄道（JR東日本）小諸駅のすぐそばにあります。
長野県上田市からも車で約15km程のところにあります。

小諸城の起源は平安時代からとのこと。武田氏の城代によって支配されて武田氏の滅亡後は、織田、徳川と支配が移ることとなる。
明治4年（1871年）の廃藩置県で廃城となった小諸城は、小諸城址懐古園として近代的な公園に生まれ変わったとのこと。
懐古園内を散策すると歴史を感じられる城跡が所々にあります。

日本さくら名所100選、日本の歴史公園100選にも選定されています。
懐古園内や周辺エリアでは、四季折々の美しい情景のなかに小諸城の面影を堪能できるばかりでなく、展望台や藤村記念館、美術館、動物園、遊園地などもあります。

I recently visited Komoro Castle Ruins Kaikoen in Komoro City, Nagano Prefecture. It’s located right next to Komoro Station, which is served by the Shinano Railway and East Japan Railway Company (JR East).

It’s also about a 15km drive from Ueda City, Nagano Prefecture.

Komoro Castle’s origins date back to the Heian period. It was ruled by the Takeda clan, and after their downfall, control passed to the Oda and Tokugawa clans.
Komoro Castle was abandoned in 1871 (Meiji 4) when the feudal domains were abolished and prefectures were established, and has since been reborn as a modern park known as Komoro Castle Ruins Kaikoen.

Strolling through the park, you’ll find castle ruins scattered throughout, giving you a sense of history.

It has also been selected as one of Japan’s 100 Best Cherry Blossom Spots and Japan’s 100 Best Historical Parks.
Within Kaikoen and the surrounding area, you can not only enjoy the remnants of Komoro Castle amidst the beautiful scenery of the four seasons, but there is also an observation deck, the Fujimura Memorial Hall, an art museum, a zoo, an amusement park and more.

2025年8月31日に行きましたが、この日は日本中猛暑日で40度近くまで上昇する場所もありましたが、懐古園内は意外とすずしい風が吹いていて
所々、枯葉が有ったので、少し秋の気配を感じました。夜間は涼しいのかもしれないですね。

I went there on August 31, 2025, and it was a scorching hot day all over Japan, with temperatures reaching nearly 40 degrees Celsius in some places. However, inside the garden, there was a surprisingly cool breeze and there were dead leaves here and there, so I felt a hint of autumn. It might be cooler at night.

小諸城址懐古園のすぐそばに小諸駅があり、駅前や小諸の街並みも散策出来て楽しめます。

小諸駅周辺に撮り鉄らしき人達が居たので、こんな小さな田舎の駅に何しに来てるのかな？と思ったらその謎が解けました。

自分が行った時は、しなの鉄道では、「湘南色」の115系電車を運転していたのと、あの「ろくもん」が停車する駅でもあったのです。
そのことを全然知らないまま行ったので、駅について初めて知りました。嬉しかったです。

Komoro Station is located right next to Komoro Castle Ruins Nostalgia Garden, and you can enjoy strolling around the station and the townscape of Komoro.

There were people who looked like train photographers around Komoro Station, and I wondered what they were doing at such a small, rural station, but then I realized the mystery.

When I visited, the Shinano Railway was operating the Shonan-colored 115 series train, and the famous Rokumon train also stops at this station.
I went there completely unaware of this, so I learned about the station for the first time. I was so happy.

とにかく電車内が豪華でオシャレです。列車デザインは、あの有名な水戸岡鋭治氏だそうです。

Shinano Railway is introducing a fun, nostalgic, yet new train.
In a dining car where you can savor the bounty of Shinshu’s mountains, in a space that both children and adults can enjoy.
Carrying the warmth of Shinshu’s wood and the highland breeze, the sightseeing train “Rokumon” will take you on a journey.

The interior of the train is simply luxurious and stylish. The train design is by the famous artist, Eiji Mitooka.

しなの鉄道は、篠ノ井駅、戸倉駅、上田駅、小諸駅、軽井沢駅など長野県内でも人気のある観光地を結ぶ電車です。
ラッピング車両など、鉄道ファン以外も楽しませてくれます。

自分が行った時は、ろくもんの運転席の窓も開けてくれて、撮影させてくれた地方の鉄道ならではサービス精神もありました。
雄大な景色が楽しめる路線なので、利用者がもっと増えると良いですね。

The Shinano Railway is a train that connects popular tourist destinations in Nagano Prefecture, including Shinonoi Station, Togura Station, Ueda Station, Komoro Station, and Karuizawa Station.
Its decorated carriages offer entertainment for people other than train enthusiasts as well.
When I visited, the driver’s seat window of the Rokumon was even opened, allowing me to take photos, a sign of the kind of service you’d expect from a local railway.
It’s a line where you can enjoy magnificent scenery, so I hope more people use it.

小諸駅前周辺の街並みも魅力的です。昔の街並み、レトロ感が何とも言えないです。いかにも観光地に来たという満足感があります。

The townscape around Komoro Station is also attractive. The old townscape and retro feel are indescribable. You really get the satisfaction of being in a tourist spot.
